Photo Collection: What I See When I Look Up

Images taken from my phone during lunch-break wanders around town…

on my way to somewhere else…

To get this view, I had to walk down steps that smelt of pee, covered in graffiti.

These shining towers were a loud, chaotic building site that I walked past every day when my life felt similar.

Now, we’re both in a better place together.

The town hall, hustling slowly - in silence - under cover of darkness.

Beauty that lasts requires patience that lasts.

What if we saw the streets we walk down every day - on the way to somewhere else - with different eyes?

This building will soon be exactly like the ones behind and beside it-

But this is the only time those square spaces will be open to the elements, before being filled with desks and chairs.

I could walk on this street with my eyes closed - yet a tiny change in the light made it look like somewhere I wanted to stay for an extra 30 seconds.

From a time before minimalism -

Who were the people that carved that stone?

How many attempts before they got it right?

Look up from the pavement, and you will see the work of people who loved their craft so much they spent their life on it.

Whoever you are, wherever you’ve from, whatever sort of day you’ve had -

This park, with its golden light, patches of shade, and pink blossoms, welcomes you.

Centuries apart, but living together in peace.

Old, if you ignore the young, you’re missing the beauty of simple lines.

Young, if you ignore the old, you’re not seeing how complexity crafted out of stone has paved the way for you.

From the flower’s point of view, doesn’t the local park look more like an open wilderness?

The silhouette of those towers reminds me of a castle I saw in a dream.
